As a painter concerned with our fragile relationship to nature I have been drawn to the sacred symbolism used in our American Indian culture. In this particular series called “Ancient Voices”, I have incorporated color symbolism used by many of the Indian tribes in their relationship to the earth and nature around them. The environment plays a key role in their lives and their use of particular colors to represent certain aspects of nature is carried through in my paintings in this series. You will find several colors in my paintings that Indian tribes use symbolically to express their reverence to nature. Red, black, white, yellow and even green are important to their culture.
